Brandenburg Cup 2026: Strong fights and important experiences for the Shinzen Dojo Berlin

Am 15. March 2026 fand in der Stadtsporthalle (Motorhalle) in Hennigsdorf der diesjährige Brandenburg Cup statt. Das Kyokushin Turnier wurde vom Kyokushinkai Karate Club Hennigsdorf e.V. ausgerichtet und von der Deutschen Kyokushinkai Organisation (DKO) veranstaltet.

The Shinzen Dojo Berlin was represented by one female fighter and three male fighters. For us Berliners, the tournament was almost a local game, and many members and parents were on-site to support our karateka.

In Kyokushin Karate, it is said:

“The way of karate begins and ends with respect.” - Sosai Masutatsu Oyama

This spirit was palpable throughout the entire tournament in the hall.

Two podium finishes for Jessica

Jessica showed a very strong performance at the Brandenburg Cup and was able to secure two podium finishes right away.

  • 2nd place Kata
  • 2nd place Kumite (girls 10–11 years)

With focused kata and great fighting spirit in kumite, she proved that her training and competition experience are paying off.

Julius also competed in two disciplines: kata and kumite.

In kumite, it was not enough for a placement this time. However, he was able to win 1st place in the kata category and secure the trophy.

  • 1st place Kata

Especially after his participation in the KWU German Open, this success was a nice moment and shows his continuous development.

Strong debut for Jeremias

For Jeremias, the Brandenburg Cup was a very special moment. It was his first tournament in Kyokushin Karate.

With three strong fights, he fought his way onto the podium and directly reached:

  • 3rd place Kumite

An impressive debut on the mat.

Sosai Oyama once said:

“The true opponent is not the person in front of you, but your own limitations.”

Jeremias took exactly this step.

Senpai Mewes in the Master class

Senpai Mewes started in the Master class Over 40 +80 kg.

After two intense fights, it was not enough for a placement this time. Nevertheless, he was able to gain valuable competition experience and showed great commitment on the mat.

Especially in the Master class, very experienced karateka often meet, which makes every fight particularly demanding.

Support as a referee

Even away from the fights, the Shinzen Dojo Berlin was represented.

Lennart supported the tournament again as a Fukushin (corner referee) and thus helped to judge the fights fairly and professionally.

Thanks to the organisers

A big thank you goes to the dojo of the Kyokushinkai Karate Club Hennigsdorf as well as to the DKO for the organisation of the tournament and the smooth proceedings.

We also thank all the members, parents, and supporters who were there and cheered on our fighters.

Congratulations also to Zen-Kyokushin Leipzig and Max on his 3rd place.

The path of Kyokushin

Tournaments like the Brandenburg Cup are an important part of the karate path. They give our students the opportunity to challenge themselves, gain experience, and grow as karateka.

“The path of Kyokushin is a path of challenge.”

IFK German Open 2026: A first competition that remains in memory Black belt

A white belt, his first tournament and straight away an experienced black belt as an opponent: For Victory Ogbonna, the IFK German Open 2026 became a special experience. In Naunhof, the 27-year-old from Shinzen Dojo Berlin competed for the first time in the Kumite +90 kg category. After regular fight time and extra time, he lost by Waza-ari, but showed fighting spirit and got back up after a hard head strike. A first competition, an important experience – and definitely not the last.
