A day full of Kyokushin spirit in Rotterdam

Joint training under Saiko Shihan Roel Wildeboer

The focus was on Kihon (basics), Kata (forms) and Bunkai (application). From the beginning, it was clear: it was not just about techniques, but about the essence of Budo – discipline, respect and the constant path of improvement.

The essence of Kata and Bunkai

Kata is the heart of karate. Every movement carries principles: attack and defence, distance and timing, strength and spirit. Only through Bunkai does this essence become alive and translated into realistic applications.

Saiko Shihan emphasised that every detail matters – the stance (dachi), breathing (kokyū), hip rotation (koshi no kaiten) and mental attitude (seishin). His words reflected the deep truth that karate is not just a fight, but a school of life.

Ein passendes Zitat von Sosai Mas Oyama unterstreicht dies:

“Karate is primarily meant to shape character. Strength without respect is meaningless.”

(Mas Oyama, “The Kyokushin Way”)

Unity across borders

It was particularly inspiring to see karateka of different ages and experience levels training together. Boundaries disappeared – everyone spoke the same language: OSU.

In the heat of the training, it was palpable what Sosai Mas Oyama always taught:

“The way of karate begins and ends with respect.”

(Mas Oyama, “Essential Karate”)

This training was a living embodiment of the motto: “Train hard, be humble, respect always.”

Gratitude and outlook

Shinzen Dojo Berlin would like to thank Saiko Shihan Roel Wildeboer for his leadership, his knowledge and his unwavering energy. We also extend our thanks to all the dojos and participants from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany who made this session possible through their commitment and spirit.

Such moments show us that we are connected as a Kyokushin family beyond national borders – through the shared path of Budo and the timeless spirit of Sosai Mas Oyama.

Osu!
