Sport for shy children

What parents can look for in a group where a cautious start has a place.

A child may observe a new group at first. Reticence is not a mistake that must be eliminated during training. It is more important whether tasks are understandable, trusted people listen, and participation becomes possible step by step.

Compare options honestly

This overview is intended for guidance. The Shinzen Dojo itself offers Kyokushin Karate.

Describe a concrete situation beforehand

Instead of just saying your child is shy, describe what is difficult in a new group: talking to other children, unknown tasks, or separation from a trusted person. This way, the instructor can better discuss the first appointment with you.

Listen after the hour

Ask about individual moments: Was something easy? What was unusual? Who helped? Does your child want to come again? Avoid the expectation that more self-confidence must be visible after one session. Progress and well-being cannot be forced.

Karate compared to other groups

Fixed greeting rituals and recurring foundations can provide orientation. At the same time, partner exercises are part of Karate later on. Whether this fits depends on the specific child and the lessons. Gymnastics, swimming, or other movement groups can be equally sensible alternatives.

How contact with SDB begins

Children's training starts from the age of five and takes place on Saturdays in Berlin-Steglitz. Write special questions about joining in your inquiry. We will discuss the appropriate appointment personally. Karate is not a guaranteed protection against bullying and does not replace individually necessary support.

Frequently asked questions

Does Karate make every child confident?

That cannot be guaranteed. Decisive factors are appropriate care, regular personal experiences, and the child's well-being.

What to do if my child does not want to participate?

Discuss the situation calmly with your child and the instructor. Pressure or a comparison with other children does not help with course selection.
