Successful participation of Shinzen Dojo Berlin in the 2nd European Summer Camp

Bydgoszcz. Vom 29.08. bis zum 01.09.2024 nahm das Shinzen Dojo Berlin am 2. Europäischen Sommerlager des Verbandes IKO World Zen-Kyokushin Europe in Wasosz, Polen teil.

Arrival and the first day: Meet and Greet

As early as Thursday, the 29.08., the Shinzen Dojo Berlin team set off early in the morning for Wasosz to be there in time for the first training session. Here, the participants from the various countries met for the first time, and a relaxed meet-and-greet took place. The first day ended with a social evening, where the participants had the opportunity to exchange ideas and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the summer camp.

Special guests of the camp:

- Shihan Kai Hallama (5th Dan) from Finland

- Shihan Florin Oltean (5th Dan) from Romania

Training and preparation for the examinations

The second day of the summer camp, Friday, began with a warm-up session led by Sensei Jaroslaw Remus. Following this, the participants were divided into different groups according to their grades:

- Beginners group: Led by Senpai Son, who focused on basic Kata.

- Advanced group: Led by Shihan Florin Oltean, with intensive training on higher Katas.

In the afternoon, the participants were introduced to Kumite exercises in order to optimally prepare for the upcoming examinations on Saturday. The evening ended with an organisational meeting of the national representatives, where important decisions for the future of the association were made.

Examination day and cultural excursion

Saturday was characterised by technical examinations and Katas, during which the candidates were tested both on their theoretical knowledge (including Japanese culture and historical facts about Kyokushin Karate) and their practical skills (Kihon training).

In the afternoon an excursion to the Biskupin Archaeological Museum took place, where the participants were able to enjoy a welcome cultural change of pace. The day ended with a lively Sayonara Party, where the successful examinations were celebrated.

Successful examinations and conclusion of the summer camp

On Sunday morning, the final kumite rounds were on the agenda, where the candidates had to overcome their last hurdle to achieve their new gradings.

Special recognition is due to our members:

  • Senpai Christian Rhode: Successful completion to 1st Dan (black belt)
  • Senpai Julya Frolova: Successful completion to 2nd Kyu (brown belt)
  • Mewes Zimmermann: Successful completion to 3rd Kyu (2nd green belt)

Tobias, Lennart and Senpai Choijantsan also deserve great thanks for their committed participation and support, even without the intention to take an examination.

Thanks and Outlook

Special thanks go to Sensei Jaroslaw Remus for the excellent organization and leadership of this unforgettable summer camp. The Shinzen Dojo Berlin looks forward to more joint events and challenges in the future.
